November 30 2024 Report by Cam Hutchins and JJ Carlson
I have been lucky enough to go to the Concorso Italiano a number of times, every visit shows me how little I really know about Italian Cars. Of course there was the large variety of the more modern Ferraris and Lamborghinis, but I really like to see the rarer older cars from Italia!
One of the coolest of the Ferraris had a little patina just like it’s Octogenarian owner David Seielstad. His 1949 166 Ferrari came all the way from Kauai Hawaii and he took the time to talk to everyone. He explained how each cylinder of his V12 Ferrari had 166 cc so it worked out to be just under 2 litre or 1,992CC.

P1051654 Being from Vancouver BC I was interested to see the the 1967 Apollo GT owned by Denny & Dani Paul of Carmel, Ca The Apollo was the brain child Frank Reisner, and he chose to settle in Vancouver and turn out Porsche 356 replicars for decades. Another of the Intermeccanica cars was the 1971 Intermeccanica Italia Convertible also owned by the Pauls. P1051651 copy

John Carapia had his 1967 Lancia Fulvia 1.2 HF Series 1 on display and it is number 344 out of approx. 400 made. He found the car on E-bay

Another car I knew very little about before the Concorso Italiano was the 1974 Lancia Fulvia 1.3S Rallye owned by Todd Radke of Red Bluff CA. The Fulvia Coupe was a compact two door three box coupe introduced in 1965. Like the sedan, it was designed in-house by Piero Castagbero, usiung a wheelbase nearly 6 inches shorter then the Sedan Counterpart. This example was restored by Lancia Classic in Italy, immaculate paint and interior. Engine is a narrow Angle(11 degree) V4 with a single head.

Fred Erin’s 1966 Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto was sold new in Rome and imported to San Francisco in the 70’s P1051627 copy

A very well loved and heavily driven car, was the 1971 1750 Alfa Romeo GTV owned by Alex and Alex Chiaro from Pennsylvania. They first saw the car on a track at an Alfa event in Montreal Canada, it has a dual carb 2 litre swapped engine and is more for the track than a show car. Alex JR drove it daily when he lived in California. Alex Sr. got his drivers licence in Germany driving a Giulietta Sprint. They belong to Alfa Romeo Association in San Francisco and The Alfa Romeo Owners Club (AROC)

Nothing is cooler than a Pantera, except a modified Pantera with a flat plane crank V8!1972 De Tomaso Pantera with a Shelby 5.2L flat Plane Crankshaft DOHC V8 with 526 Horsepower. The preset owner is only the third owner of this car.

Ralph Lorananta from Illinois 1969 Lancia Fulvia 1.6 Rallye HF. This front wheel drive car was sold new as a competition rally car in Tenerife, in the Canary Islands.
