Ladies and Gentlemen,
Great News from the NAACC!
Please be advised that the 25 percent Surtax (Tariff) that was imposed on imported Collector Vehicles from the USA 25 years old and older has now been removed effective September 3, 2025. This removal is retroactive to September 1, 2025. I have informed many hobbyists who have been in contact with us over these past few months of the good news. Many Canadian purchasers have had their vehicles waiting in US storage for this day. As you can imagine, this has been a long, up hill back and forth exchange with the Federal Government.
I want to give a special thank you to the NAACC Director from Quebec, Jean-Yves Gauthier, our Tariff expert, for his stellar work in dealing with the correspondence from the Federal Government. To the best of my knowledge there has not been one coarse word on either side of this debate. In our opinion, this Surtax should never have been put in place. Over forty-five years ago the National Association of Automobile Clubs of Canada lobbied successfully to have the Customs Duty removed on collector vehicles 25 years old and older and their related parts. This lobby cost in excess of $100,000 and took almost two and a half years. Clubs from all across Canada played a significant role in making the Surtax go away. This time it was quite different, and the time frame was thankfully significantly shorter.
I truly feel that the NAACC lobby and letter writing campaign had a significant impact in persuading the Federal Government to do the right thing and remove the Surtax of 25%. Many letters of correspondence went directly to the Minister of Finance and the Prime Minister of Canada. Many Canadian purchasers contacted the NAACC asking for help. They literally had no where else to go for help.
In closing, thank you to the Federal Government for doing the right thing. The collector vehicle hobby helps fund many Charitable Organizations in Canada, as well as providing many services to our senior citizens. It also plays a significant role in the Canadian economy with its significant tax contributions. The NAACC will continue to support the preservation of the automobile and motorcycle world. To our hobbyists, Canada is a better place because of everyone’s efforts.
Thank you all for your continued support.
