Please do not let politics get in the way. The NAACC has absolutely no political ties, leanings or preferences. We are 100% nonpartisan. We are only concerned about serving Canadian needs and doing the right thing for our Canadian collector car and collector motorcycle enthusiasts in Canada.

The National Association of Automobile Clubs of Canada is working on one of its biggest challenges ever. The Tariffs imposed on Canadian residents by the Canadian government have paralyzed the collector car hobby in Canada. Many transactions have been sadly cancelled or have been put on hold. As of June 9, 2025 there continues to be a 25% Tariff on USA manufactured collector vehicles being imported into Canada from the USA.

The USA is not imposing this 25% tariff on its US residents. It appears that the Canadian Government is trying to make a statement. Sadly, this statement is hurting everyone in Canada who is purchasing a collector car or motorcycle in the USA. The Canadian Government has implemented a 25% tariff on all US vehicles that were made in the USA and are being imported into Canada. The PST is applied and then the Tarriff is imposed. Basically, a tax on a tax! A vehicle being brought into Canada is now Tariff taxed at 25%, the PST is calculated and then the Customs Tax is applied on the total. Never mind that the price of the vehicle is in US dollars that also has to be converted to Canadian dollars first before taxes and the Tarriff is applied.

Over forty years ago, the NAACC lead the way to ‘duty free’ admission of collector vehicles if they were 25 years old or older and their related parts.

Sadly, after decades of great working relationships, we are again in negotiations with the Federal Government to make this very unfair 25% Tariff go away.

Repeating myself, the USA has not imposed these Tariffs and taxes on vehicles going into the USA from Canada. According to a leading Import / Export company as of June 9th Canadian collector cars are being purchased and exported to the USA in unprecedented high numbers. Sadly, in all likelihood, these vehicles will never return to Canada.

I urge you to write a letter to your (MP) Member of Parliament urging them to voice a strong opposition to this unjust Tarriff. I also urge you to write “The Right Honourable Mark Carney PC, M., Prime Minister of Canada” and also to the Minister of Finance.

The collector hobby in Canada contributes many hundreds of thousands of dollars each year to both local charities and to the Canadian economy. As the guardians for preserving the history of collector vehicles we are asking the Federal Government to do the right thing and remove the restrictive 25% Tarriff on US vehicles and related parts 25 years old and older. Some Border Crossings are not changing Tariff’s on parts. Sadly, some are.

How do I write a letter to the Government of Canada?

How do I address a letter to the Prime Minister of Canada?

To properly address a letter to the Prime Minister of Canada, please use the following format: “The Right Honourable Mark Carney P.C., M.P., Prime Minister of Canada, Office of the Prime Minister, 80 Wellington Street, Ottawa, ON K1A 0A2”. In the salutation, you can use “Dear Prime Minister:” or simply “Prime Minister:”.

Be credible: Use formal grammar and punctuation. Type your letter if possible, using the appropriate format for a formal letter or print it out on your computer. (It has been my experience that you get a lot more understanding with honey as compared with vinegar😊) Request a response: Courteously, ask for a response to your letter. Sign and date your letter: Date your letter and put your name and address on both the letter and the envelope.

Also, I would suggest that you email both the Prime Minister and Finance Minister as well. Please use the following format.

This is a great website that will help you send your message to the Prime Minister: https://www.pm.gc.ca/en/connect/contact

Also: Email the Finance Minister:

Minister of Finance
The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, MP
Department of Finance Canada 90 Elgin Street
Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0G5
House of Commons

Email: [email protected]

Sample Letter:

The Right Honourable Mark Carney P.C., M.P., Prime Minister of Canada, Office of the Prime Minister.

The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, MP, Finance Minister

I am writing to you both to urge that you drop the Canadian 25% Tariff on Collector Cars and their related parts that are 25 years old or older entering Canada from the USA. As you know, the USA does not have a 25% Tariff on collector vehicles going into the USA from Canada.

Canada has never had a 25% Tariff before. This newly imposed Tarriff is causing Canadian Hobbyists extreme hardship. In many cases transactions have been cancelled or forced to be put on hold. In the meantime, collector Canadian vehicles are being purchased in mass by our USA neighbors.  Sadly, these vehicles will not return to Canada.

The Collector Car Hobby in Canada contributes millions of dollars each year to the Canadian economy. The collector car hobby also contributes tens of thousands of dollars to charity as well. This new Tarriff hurts the hobby in Canada and it hurts the Canadian economy and it also hurts me, the consumer.

I am asking for parity with the USA. Please remove the 25% Tariff on USA made vehicles that coming into Canada from the USA and go back to what the Canadian Government has done for the past 50 years in regards to Collector vehicles entering into Canada.

Please help us to keep our collector vehicles safe and to continue to support Canada and the Canadian economy.

Thank you,
