Concorso Italiano 2022

As soon as we entered where the VIP/press entrance is located we saw a lot of amazing Lamborghinis. Following past the Lambos we ended up with the DeTomasa Mangustas and Panteras and even a Cadillac Alante and a Chrysler 300 letter car.
Then on to a couple of rows of Maseratis, then Ferraris and all the way down to the a couple of the most significant cars for use Canadians, An Apollo GT, a Intermeccanica Italia and even a Intermeccanica Torino, that was the first one I had ever seen! We had a nice chat with the couple that owned the car and they had all sorts of old photos and factory literature from the previous longtime owner.

2019 Concorso Italiano
2019 Concorso Italiano, photos by Cam Hutchins, report by Cam Hutchins and JJ Carlson
The 2019 Concorso Italiano was held once again at the Black Horse Golf Course with over 800 Italian vehicles on hand to please everyone. Anniversaries are important at car shows a this is the 50th anniversary of the Ferrari Dino, 60th anniversary of DeTomasa Automobili and 70th anniversary of the Abarth brand.
Conspicuously a late model Fiat 500L was on display and I don’t know if that particularly pleased anyone, but the smart cheeky “New” Fiat 500 Abarths and even the Pops bring smiles to lots of Carnuts. The vast array of Fiats was staggering, but the Best of show was properly awarded to the 1960 Ferrari 250 GT II Cabriolet of Ron Corradini.
2018 Concorso Italiano
The 33rd Concorso Italiano
Bayonet Black Horse Gold Course in Seaside California had a great selection of the cars that made Italy famous and celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the Ferrari Daytona, the Lamborghini Islero and Espada. Wandering around the 1,000 Italian cars was a perfect way to spend Saturday morning of Car Week in the Carmel/Monterey area.
One of the first cars we saw as we entered the field at some crazy early hour as we were some of the first media there, was an Apollo GT. Technically an American automobile manufactured in Oakland California from 1962 to 1964. With Milt Brown as engineer and a Ron Plescia designed handcrafted body from in Italy. Both convertibles and fastback coupes were built powered by either a Buick 215 or 300cu in V8 with 4 speed manual transmissions.

2017 Concorso Italiano
After spending half the day wandering the selection of Italian cars at the Concorso Italiano, my favourite car was British.
As a long time Austin Healey owner my love for all types of Healeys lead me to the pair of Nash Healeys on the Fairway. Crazy to see two of these beauties at one place and they comprise 20% of all the Nash Healeys I have ever seen! Donald Healey came up with the original 1951 design for the car and for 1952 Nash sent the car to be reworked by Pinin Farina with a body that I like less than the 1951 version, but I have only seen photos of the original.

The 29th annual Concorso Italiano 2014 was held on the lush fairways of the Bayonet Black Horse Golf Course in Seaside, California. This show marked the 100th Anniversary of Maserati. Zagato vehicles and Pantera’s were also featured. More than 300 cars and motorcycles were on display. Truly, the setting was fantastic. The former location had many up and downs and was difficult to view easily if you were elderly or did not want to hike long distances. The return to new location is terrific!

2015 Concorso Italiano
My trip to the Concorso Italiano for the 2015 event was the 6th time I had been able to take in the show. Getting there early was the key to getting great shots as the crowds move in quickly.
I parked as close as they allowed to the gate and grabbed my cameras and headed tot he are where the cars were driving in. SUch a great spot to see them all arrive. I snapped away and then wandered through the crowds and snapped what I could. Patience is the key.
I took copious notes on a voice recorder only yot lose the recorder at Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway. UGH…so here is my report…from Memory.

2012 Concorso Italiano
The 27th Concorso Italiano was held at the Laguna Seca Golf Ranch just a quick drive from Laguna Seca raceway. Almost 1000 cars of Italian heritage are on display as well as the area set aside for other stunning cars from other countries. As well the walk through the parking lot has a large variety of stunning autos to look at.
But the Concorso Italiano is much more than a car show it is a celebration of all things Italian and the Italian car culture is alive and well in North America with the reintroduction of Fiat and the strong sales of the Italian supercars. The food vendors serve some of the finest cuisine available and the Vino and fashion are on hand to complete the experience.

The 2011 Concorso Italiano was held at the Laguna Seca Golf Ranch on a tree lined fairway that was not the terrain of Mountain goats and offered a stunning layout for the cars to be displayed…but even if we were at a rundown tenement building the cars would drown out their surroundings. Much has been commented on the various locations of the Concorso Italiano since it’s inception in 1985 and it must be a large nuisance to the local golfers but the nearly 1000 italian cars gathered has it’s own dedicated following.

25th Annual Concorso Italiano: Ferrari F40 Featured

Monterey, Calif. – After a very successful event in 2009, it was no surprise that 2010 would also take place at the lucious Laguna Seca Golf Ranch off highway 68. The rolling green hills and valley overview proved to be an excellent landscape for this bright ensemble of automobiles. I was delighted to see the Ferrari F40 as a featured car this year, as it has been one of my favorites for a long time. At 2400lb and 470 bhp, this really is a true super car – basically a race car for the street. The compact 2.9L twin-turbo V8 is light and spins up to 7000rpm quicky, despite some marginal turbo lag. The body is a composite of kevlar, carbon and aluminum. My favorite thing about the F40 is that it’s all business.
